This is John Calvin Barnes, son of William and Sarah Barnes, born 23 Feb. 1827 in Marion Co., MS. Died in Simpson Co., MS. He was the brother of Nathan (N. B.) Barnes also in Stubbs' Battalion.

This is Allan Stewart Davis; son of Loughton Davis and Mary Stewart. He was born 16 Sept. 1840 and died 11 Nov 1865 as a result of the war. My ggrandmother, his sister, made the comment close to the end of her life that she could not died yet because she had not forgiven the Yankees for killing her brother.

Nathan B. Barnes took this oath because he and his son, William Lancaster Barnes, were captured and in prison. William Lancaster would not take the oath, but Nathan managed to make the Union believe that if they would release his son without him taking the oath that he (Nathan) really would go home and stay there. Since he was a captain and Wm. a private they accepted his word. He did go home ...more

This is Nathan B. Barnes, born in Marion Co, MS on 21 June 1822, died 05 July 1878 in Covington Co., MS. His wife was Zilphia Lancaster Barnes. His son, William Lancaster born 22 April 1847 was also in Stubbs' Battalion.
